Botox
What is Botox?
Botox is a brand name for Botulinum toxin, which can be used for cosmetic purposes to reduce wrinkles. It works by blocking nerve signals to muscles, thereby weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles.
How is Botox given?
Botox is given as an injection, which is a fast and relatively pain-free procedure. It is injected into the muscles causing the wrinkles, which are most frequently on the forehead, between the eyes, and on the sides of the eyes. During your consultation with Dr. Rhody, together you can decide which sites you would like injecting. A very fine needle is used, so discomfort is minimised.
How long do the effects last?
The effects become visible after two to five days of the treatment, however it can take up to two weeks for significant results. The effects of Botox are temporary, usually lasting three to six months. For best results, the injections should be repeated two or three times.
Are there any risks involved?
Rare complications include minor bleeding and bruising. More serious but much less common complications include drooping of the eyelid, double vision and tiredness. Dr. Rhody will advise you on how to minimise complications and in the unlikely event of their occurrence, they are generally temporary and reverse spontaneously.
