Dermal Fillers
What is filler?
The type of filler used by Dr. Rhody is hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found throughout the body. It works as a water-holding substance, so it keeps the tissue hydrated and maintains its structure, shape and definition. Therefore, fillers are used to reshape and redefine the contours of the face and to give a lift. With age, the natural hyaluronic acid in the skin is lost, leading to wrinkles. Therefore, hyaluronic acid fillers can be given to reduce wrinkles, giving a smoother face.
How is filler given?
A filler is given as an injection, which is a fast and relatively pain-free procedure. Dermal fillers can be given around the eyes, cheeks, mouth and jawline, and also into the lip. During your consultation with Dr. Rhody, together you can decide which sites you would like injecting. A very fine needle is used, so discomfort is minimised.
How long do the effects last?
Temporary dermal fillers last up to 12 months, much longer than Botox injections which last up to 6 months.
Are there any risks involved?
There is a possibility of minor bruising, and in much rarer cases, a skin reaction or infection. A more serious complication is occlusion of a blood vessel, therefore it is very important to have the procedure performed by an experienced medical practitioner who has studied anatomy thoroughly and is able to manage complications. Dr. Rhody will discuss all risks in clinic to ensure you have a clear understanding.
